American Documentary is a leading non-profit media organization dedicated to creating, identifying and presenting contemporary non-fiction stories that express opinions and perspectives rarely featured in mainstream media outlets.

Since 1988, American Documentary has produced the award-winning series P.O.V. (a cinematic term for 'point-of-view') for PBS, presenting over 250 of the most important documentary films of our time. Our content-coupled with our unsurpassed national reach and local affiliations-has brought powerful documentary storytelling into people's lives in meaningful ways and helped change public discourse on issues of national importance.

As a catalyst for public culture, American Documentary develops collaborative strategic engagement activities around socially relevant content on television, online and in community settings. These activities are designed to trigger action; from dialogue and feedback, to educational opportunities and community participation.

American Documentary continues to pioneer new methods of engaging the public through the use of independent media through groundbreaking partnerships, artist support initiatives, and new strands of nonfiction programming to address the increasing demand for content on multiple platforms.
