May 3 2007 - Public television's premiere showcase for independent non-fiction film seeks submissions from all perspectives to showcase in its annual PBS series. P.O.V. welcomes all subjects, styles, lengths and work that expands the notion of what documentary can be. Unfinished films may be eligible for completion funds. Sep 12 2007 - Two of PBS's flagship documentary series, FRONTLINE and P.O.V./American Documentary, will be honored with a Special Award for Excellence in Television Documentary Filmmaking at the 28th Annual News & Documentary Emmy® Awards. FRONTLINE, which will mark its 25th anniversary in January 2008, will be honored for more than 24 years of outstanding long-form public affairs documentaries. P.O.V./American Documentary, which is in its 20th season on PBS this year, will be commended for its two decades as a showcase for outstanding independent documentary films.  | »

American Documentary | P.O.V. Grants Third Annual "Best Pitch" Award At DocFest07

Nov 1 2007 - How do you sell your documentary idea? Five emerging nonfiction filmmakers got the opportunity to pitch their story proposals to a panel of decision-makers at the popular The Art of the Documentary Pitch workshop in New York on Saturday, Oct. 27, part of DocFest07, the eighth annual documentary festival at The Paley Center for Media. American Documentary, Inc., producer of the award-winning P.O.V. series on PBS, sponsored the third annual award, presented during the competition portion of the session. The winner, Canadian filmmaker Angad Bhalla, received a $5,000 grant to be used toward the completion of the pitched film, The House That Herman Built.  | »
