POV Spark Labs is an incubation initiative that offers support through three distinct opportunities: Production, Community/Culture and New Tech. Each strand is specificity structured to support and create interactive stories. It's the only program in the industry that has a built-in post-event production cycle and distribution arm.
The Production strand is a design intensive aimed to support and advance interactive non-fiction media projects already in early stage production. Developed to provide personalized support, each team will identify aspects of production that need support and be paired with mentors and tools. All teams will leave with a prototype and a production blueprint.
The New Tech strand pairs multidisciplinary participants to collaborate and create a prototype over a multi-day period. A selected group of mentors will be present throughout the lab to support the teams in the development process. The lab provides structured learning modules in order to encourage artistic growth within the interactive field.
The Community/Culture strand creates a space for community members to envision and build emerging media projects that put people and their culture first. Over a multi-day period, participants will be placed in teams to address a shared need. Alongside a designated technologist and designer, teams will identify the technology that best fits their project and create a prototype. Mentors and therapists will be present to both support the project development and the participants' welfare, as healing in creative spaces is central to the Community/Culture strand. Community is the true interactivity.
