POV's ADVOCATE nominated for 2 Emmys including Best Documentary, Multiple nominations for POV Shorts film THE LOVE BUGS

New York, N.Y. – July 27, 2021 – American Documentary | 'POV,' American television’s longest-running independent documentary series, has received seven nominations for the 2021 News & Documentary Emmy® Awards, announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, including a Best Documentary nod for Rachel Leah Jones' and Philippe Bellaïche's Advocate. American Documentary's 'America ReFramed,' co-produced with WORLD Channel, received a nomination for Tutwiler, a collaboration with FRONTLINE and The Marshall Project. PBS once again led all other networks with a total of 52 nominations. The full list of POV’s nominated films includes two nominations each for Advocate and POV Shorts' The Love Bugs, and individual nominations for Our Time Machine, The Rescue List, andSoftie.

Advocate is nominated in the Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary and Best Documentary categories. The film, which was also shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature for the 92nd Academy Awards, follows political firebrand and Israeli defense attorney Lea Tsemel, known by her opponents as "the devil's advocate" for her decades-long defense of Palestinians who have been accused of resisting the occupation, both violently and nonviolently.

Now in its 34th season, POV films have won 42 Emmy® Awards and the series has been honored with a Special News & Documentary Emmy Award for Excellence in Television Documentary Filmmaking.
